Deeia Beck - Public Counsel

Hello and welcome to our website. My name is Deeia Beck and I am the Public Counsel and Executive Director for the Office of Public Insurance Counsel (“OPIC”). Our mission at OPIC is to advocate on behalf of Texas insurance consumers. Our statutory authority is found in the Texas Insurance Code Title 5. Subtitle A. Chapter 501.

We represent the interests of consumers, including small commercial insurance consumers, as a class on matters involving insurance rates, rules, and policy forms. We are actively engaged in all personal lines of insurance including auto, homeowners, windstorm, title, and credit insurance. We may also appear or intervene in matters involving other lines of insurance for which the Texas Department of Insurance sets, adopts, or approves rates, rules or forms. We also advocate in rulemaking proceedings for life, accident, and health insurance.

While our statutory authority does not allow us to represent individual consumers, individual complaints may point to a larger issue triggering our involvement. Accordingly, it is important that we hear from you and understand any issues you may be having.

We invite you to look around our website and give us feedback on how we are doing. We have separate sections to the left for detailed information on the major insurance issues. We also ask you to take a look at our News/Publication section to review the latest developments. To the right we have Quicklinks so that you can get other groups' information quickly.

Again, thank you for visiting our website. We welcome your comments and suggestions. And, please come visit us again soon.
