Bill of Rights: Homeowners, Dwelling and Renters Insurance

Texas law gives you certain rights regarding your homeowners, dwelling and renters insurance. The Office of Public Insurance Counsel has prepared a Consumer Bill of Rights for Homeowners, Dwelling and Renters Insurance, which provides a summary of various rights afforded to you by rule or by state statute concerning homeowners, dwelling and renters insurance. Please note that the Bill of Rights does not include all of your rights, nor does it list all exceptions to your rights.

Furthermore, this Bill of Rights does not address your duties or responsibilities as a policyholder. These are found in your homeowners, dwelling, or renter’s policy. Failure to meet the duties or responsibilities spelled out in your policy could affect your rights as a policyholder.

The Consumer Bill of Rights for Homeowners, Dwelling and Renters Insurance is available in PDF format. In order to view the files you'll need to download the free version of Adobe Acrobat.
